Series I
The first Landy, the Series I, set the standard for 4 wheel drive cars. Essentially an agricultural vehicle the Land Rover series I was constantly improved through various series but still remained instantly recognisable and comfortingly dependable. Used by the country set, the farmers and the forces here was a car which was classless and peerless.The first models featured a 1.6 litre engine with lights hidden behind the grill. These were revised in 1951 to sit outside of the grill and the sidelights were moved from the bulkhead to the front wings. A 2.0 litre engine was also offered.
An assortment of bodystyles were available throught the Series I life and this became expected in later models.
What started as an 80 inch wheelbase model grew to 88 inches by the time the model life ended.
